What a $0 brake inspection actually looks like

Written by David Shields

The words "free brake inspection" have been abused by the industry for decades. Here's what one actually looks like at our shop.

The 12 measurements

  1. Pad thickness β€” inner and outer, all four corners (8 measurements)
  2. Rotor thickness β€” minimum-spec compared to manufacturer stamp
  3. Rotor runout β€” dial indicator on the car
  4. Caliper slide movement β€” hand-checked
  5. Hydraulic hose condition β€” visual + squeeze test
  6. Brake fluid moisture % β€” refractometer

What you leave with

A printed report, photos texted to your phone, and a written estimate if anything is under spec. If everything is fine, we hand you the report and wave you off β€” no oil-change-store speech, no scripted upsell.
